Lois North
A long-time member of the League of Women Voters, Lois North was a leader in the effort to develop
a new redistricting initiative in the early 1960s. North later held several political offices.
In 1968 she was first elected to the house of Representatives from the 44
th District
and after three terms won a seat in the Senate. She also served many years as a member of the King County Council.

Mary Ellen McCaffree
Mary Ellen McCaffree was an active member of the League of Women Voters and became involved in the organization's
efforts to develop and promote a redistricting initiative in the early 1960s. McCaffree was elected
to a House seat in 1962 and served four terms as a Republican representative from the
32
nd District.

Slade Gorton
As part of the Republican leadership in the House, Slade Gorton headed his party's redistricting efforts.
Gorton completed five terms in the House before he was elected to serve as Washington's Attorney
General and later as a United States Senator.
