THIS RULE IS BEING PROPOSED UNDER AN EXPEDITED RULE-MAKING PROCESS THAT WILL ELIMINATE THE NEED FOR THE AGENCY TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARINGS, PREPARE A SMALL BUSINESS ECONOMIC IMPACT STATEMENT, OR PROVIDE RESPONSES TO THE CRITERIA FOR A SIGNIFICANT LEGISLATIVE RULE. Box 47863, Olympia, WA 98504-7863 , AND RECEIVED BY December 1, 2008.

Purpose of the Proposal and Its Anticipated Effects, Including Any Changes in Existing Rules: The proposed amendment removes the 2002 edition of the Drug Topics Red Book and updates the reference to the 2008 edition. The amendment to the rule will clarify the expectation that pharmacists use current references when identifying drugs requiring a prescription as determined by the Food and Drug Administration. It is essential for pharmacists to have access to current product (drugs) information to assist practitioners and their patients in making informed decisions about medications.
