PREPROPOSAL STATEMENT OF INQUIRY

EASTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY

     Subject of Possible Rule Making: Modification of chapter 172-121 WAC, Student conduct code. This revision eliminates the time restriction for the director of student rights and responsibilities to forward appeal requests to the appeal authority.

     Statutes Authorizing the Agency to Adopt Rules on this Subject: RCW 28B.35.120.

     Reasons Why Rules on this Subject may be Needed and What They Might Accomplish: This revision is needed because the time restriction being eliminated is unreasonable - particularly during academic breaks.

     Other Federal and State Agencies that Regulate this Subject and the Process Coordinating the Rule with These Agencies: None.

     Process for Developing New Rule:       Negotiated rule making; and agency study.

A public hearing will be held to permit comment to all proposed rules and revisions. There will be an opportunity to provide written comments to the proposed rules.
