ExpirationRenewal. (Effective until January 1, 2024.)

(1) A CDL expires in the same manner as provided in RCW 46.20.181.
(2) When applying for renewal of a CDL, the applicant must:
(a) Complete the application form required under RCW 46.25.070(1), providing updated information and required certifications, and meet all the requirements of RCW 46.25.070 and 49 C.F.R. Sec. 383.71;
(b) Submit the application to the department in person; and
(c) If the applicant wishes to retain a hazardous materials endorsement, take and pass the written test for a hazardous materials endorsement.

(2) When applying for renewal of a CDL, the applicant must:
(a) Complete the application form required under RCW 46.25.070(1), providing updated information and required certifications, and meet all the requirements of RCW 46.25.070 and 49 C.F.R. Sec. 383.71; and
(b) If the applicant wishes to retain a hazardous materials endorsement, take and pass the written test for a hazardous materials endorsement.
(3) The department must not renew a CDL if the CDL holder is prohibited from operating a commercial motor vehicle based on a query of the drug and alcohol clearinghouse as provided in 49 C.F.R. Sec. 383.73.
